In today's hunting show realm, the digital side of it continues to grow larger and larger. For me personally, I don't have cable TV, and therefore I consume all of my hunting shows via the internet. There's a ton of online shows out there, and a lot of different places you can go to consume online hunting shows. Today, I wanted to run through some of my favorites, and some websites you can go to in order to watch these.

This past year I started using a new tool for hunting, and it's been something that's been game changing for me. OnX maps has literally changed the way I scout, look at maps, identify public and private land, and ultimately hunt. OnX is something I'd strongly recommend to anybody, whether you hunt public land, or own your own property, and here's why.

Over the last couple of years, the podcast realm has continued to grow, and more and more podcasts have filled the airways. This can be a good and bad thing. There's a lot of great information out there to consume, but sometimes it may be difficult to figure out what fits your style, and what podcasts are worth listening to for you. Today, I wanted to go over some of the ones that I like, and highlight the best podcasts that I and you should be listening to in 2018.

During the course of time I spent at the ATA show, I was looking at products and thinking, what makes sense for people to use? It was actually a rather difficult question to answer given the wide scope of hunting backgrounds people have, the different types of areas people chase whitetails, and simply that everyone has different outlooks on products. My first ATA show is a wrap, and it was a great experience. I met a lot of great people and created new relationships. There's also a bunch of new products coming out in 2018, and I wanted to highlight five products that I thought were pretty unique. Last summer I began hearing about a rather new trail camera company that seemed to be performing quite well. Me being someone who runs anywhere between ten and thirty trail cameras at one time spread across three states, I started to look into Exodus trail cameras. Lately, I've taken notice to something alarming within the deer hunting community. Every time I see it, I cringe, and it's something I've wanted to write about for some time now, but I haven't found the right words to phrase it. I've decided that it's time to go for it, and shoot from the hip, but I'm going to attempt to explain it in the best way that I can.
Just as I thought I was getting to a relatively stable mindset for this upcoming deer season, I got a YouTube notification. Season two of Midwest Whitetail's Chasing November had been uploaded. You can probably guess how I'll spend the majority of my next few nights. 24 episodes of pure gold is going to be watched, and then I'll officially be losing my mind, counting down the hours until I'll be back in a treestand.
Let's switch it up for a minute, and rather than talk about a tactic, strategy, or story, today I wanted to bring you a different type of interview. I'd venture to guess that at some point in your hunting life, you were dissatisfied with a product. Maybe you even thought you should start a company of your own so you could make that product how you wanted. But thinking about this, and actually doing it are worlds apart.

This time of the year, anything I can do to scratch my deer hunting itch, I do it. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but it seems to me that every year once bucks start becoming identifiable, I start going deer crazy on another level. There are a few hunting films that I like to watch over and over again, and during the summer, these films get me even more pumped for deer season to get here.

Have you ever searched for a piece of hunting clothing that seemed to be the ultimate warrior? I mean that one garment that goes with you everywhere, on seemingly every hunt? Recently, I have came across quite possibly the best hunting garment I have ever owned, and I wanted to give it a quick review for you. This winter, I decided to switch over my hunting clothing to a more "technical gear" type of clothing and chose Sitka Gear. I'm usually the one wearing about fifteen layers when it gets below freezing, and I wanted to become more efficient with my layering system. Knowing that I wanted to switch to this type of gear, I knew it would be expensive, and have started switching over slowly, but surely. One of the first new pieces of clothing that I picked up was the Sitka Gear Fanatic Hoody, and let me tell you it hasn't disappointed me.

Online media and blogs have continually grown more and more over the years. I would venture to say that a majority of people that consume their deer hunting information does so online. With that said, I wanted to focus on a few blogs that I read, and that contain a wealth of knowledge which I believe are worth following. So here we go in no particular order.
Rather recently, I was turned on to a book titled Growing & Hunting Quality Bucks, authored by Tom Indrebo. Tom is the owner of Bluff Country Outfitters, located in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. I was chatting with a friend who knows Tom, and he highly recommended that I read the book. Naturally, when I get a book recommendation, I don't hesitate to read it, as reading is something that I love to do. With all of that said, lets jump in to the review of the book, and what made it such a great read.
Recently, it seems as though I've been getting a number of questions on what it costs to film your hunts. Though this can vary, largely depending on what kind of quality footage you are looking for, what your intent is with filming, how nice of gear you want, etc. I will give a breakdown of what it cost me to get into filming this year. What it cost me will not be an exact cost for everybody, but it should give you a general idea what you might be able to afford, and what kind of quality you can get out it. With all of that said, lets jump into the breakdown.

So often, deer hunting becomes a single track activity. There is only one thing on our mind, and that is to kill deer, or hunt mature bucks, and success is directly correlated to whether or not you end up over a expired deer at the end of a blood trail. So much gets lost during the pursuit of these animals, and I think it is important to take time, and remember everything else that makes deer hunting so special.

We've got a problem. It's something that we don't like to admit, but it's there, right in front of us. There is a glowing problem that I continue to see within our community and our deer hunting industry as a whole. What we do about this problem could ultimately decide what direction our industry heads. Do we turn this into a positive, or let it dictate us and have deer hunting spiral out of control? It really boils down to you and me.
