3 Mistakes To Avoid This Summer

By Alex Comstock

As summer starts to get rolling, more and more of you will be doing whitetail related activities in preparation for the 2018 season, as will I. Depending on your hunting style, summer can be a crucial time of the year, and the outcome of your season could hinge on what you accomplish, and what you don't screw up. There are ways you can hurt yourself for fall, and it's important you don't make these following mistakes. The more you can accomplish and the less mistakes you make, will in turn create more optimal hunting for you in a few months.

How Becoming a Mobile Hunter Can Increase Your Chances of Success Hunting Mature Bucks

How Becoming a Mobile Hunter Can Increase Your Chances of Success Hunting Mature Bucks

It's easy to fall into a routine right? No matter what facet of life, it can be hard to break that routine, even if it doesn't work. When it comes to deer hunting, if you truly want to be successful harvesting mature bucks, the mentality of sitting the same tree year in and year out might not always work out as you'd like. Not to say there isn't that special tree that could produce every year at the right time, but by becoming a mobile hunter, you could be setting yourself up for elevated success.

Tip of The Week | Try Something Completly New This Season

Tip of The Week | Try Something Completly New This Season

In so many circumstances, it appears to me that deer hunters can easily fall into a pattern that leads them down the same road each and every season. You find yourself doing the same exact thing, putting trail cameras on the same tree, hunting the same stand, walking in footsteps from last year, and the cycle goes on. My challenge to you is this: Do something new this year!

Developing Consistent Good Habits

Developing Consistent Good Habits

Habits, we all have them in our life, whether they are good or bad. Think about how our habits influence our life in general. I am always saying, "jeez, I really need to start doing this", or "I really should stop doing that". The same thing applies to deer hunting. "I really need to start paying more attention to the wind", "I need to shoot my bow more often". Developing and creating consistent good habits can make a world of a difference when it comes to deer hunting.

The Ability To Adapt | Harvest More Mature Bucks

The Ability To Adapt | Harvest More Mature Bucks

This weekend I had the chance to get back to Nebraska, a place that I love to hunt as much as anywhere. I was more excited than I should have been due to the fact I didn't get the chance to hunt there last year. As I was headed down, my anticipation was at an all time high. I had one trail camera that I had set up while shed hunting in February and was pumped to see what was on it. I also was thrilled to do some glassing on a new property that I had picked up in the spring, and was hoping for big things. Yet, the weekend didn't go as planned, and I thought this would be a good time to touch on the ability to adapt as whitetails hardly ever do exactly what you want them to, and how adapting can lead to harvesting many more mature bucks.

Quick Read: Determining A Shooter Buck

Quick Read: Determining A Shooter Buck

With June already almost behind us, and July on the horizon, I have been starting to put together my hitlist for 2016, or what bucks I consider "shooters". Time and time again, I end up shooting a buck that isn't on my hitlist, or wasn't on my radar during the summer. I have been spending a lot of time thinking about why this occurs, and how I determine what a shooter is.

Trail Camera Management

Trail Camera Management

I think my favorite part of deer hunting besides creating all of the awesome memories with friends and family is running trail cameras. It’s almost an addiction in itself. There are more and more people these days that run trail cameras 365 days a year, and at some times of the year are using them to simply try and capture mesmerizing pictures. But during the summer months we're usually focused on finding that next big buck to go after. If your anything like me, there are thousands of pictures you get each year, and after a few years it can be daunting to have all those organized and know what do to with the information you get from all those pictures. Managing all those pictures, and using them as another tool will inevitably make you a more successful hunter.
