Vortex Diamondback 10x42 Binoculars Review

By Alex Comstock

Over the last year and a half or so, I’ve started using Vortex Optics. The first piece of Vortex I was able to get was the 10X42 diamondback binoculars. And ever since, I couldn’t have been happier. Before my Vortex binoculars, I had never owned a pair of quality glass, and I eventually knew it was time to get something that was quality, but at the same time I didn’t have the budget to spend a crazy amount of money. Eventually that lead me to Vortex. Today, I want to go over a quick and simple review of the 10x42 diamondback binoculars and why I like them so much.

Compact

The first thing that I really like about these binoculars are how compact they are and how nicely they fit in your hands. They have small indents where your thumbs go even, and the smallest of detail like this really makes a difference when holding them up to your face, or to quickly grab them when on a bino harness and sitting on your chest.

Clarity

The next thing I want to cover is how impressed I’ve been with the clarity of these binoculars. Especially given their price point of about $280, I could not be happier with how clear these binoculars have been, and they’ve made a big difference in my ability to pick things out at long distances. Compared to what I had before, they’re day and night better. I’m sure the higher end binoculars are even more razor sharp, but with how much you might have to pay for higher end glass, the diamondback’s do a great job.

They’re even particularly clear in low-light situations. This can be a huge hurdle for glass, and let me tell you, with my old pair of binoculars, once you got to those last 15 minutes of light, seeing anything was a chore. Especially given the settings I hunt a lot in northern Minnesota, I am trying to pick out movement in the timber, and having a pair of binoculars that can allow me to do that in the last minutes of light is a big plus in my eyes.

Adjustable Eye Piece & Focus Ring

Now, this may not seem like the thing to cover in a short review, but the ease in which the eye piece adjusts was one of the first things I noticed after getting these binoculars. They adjust easily and stay where you adjust them too, which should be simple, but isn’t with all binoculars. And then the focus ring is really easy to dial in focus to get that crisp, sharp look.

Vortex VIP Warranty

One of the best parts about owning these binoculars is the peace of mind. Vortex offers what I would say is a warranty that is unmatched. If you drop your binoculars from a treestand, maybe accidentally run them over in your truck, or somehow manage to damage them, all you need to do is send them back to Vortex and they’ll fix them for you. If they can’t fix them, a new pair will show up at your door. Simple as that!

Conclusion

As you can probably notice, I’m definitely a big fan of these binoculars. Like I mentioned before, for what you get with the price, they’re hard to beat. So with that, if you’re in the market for a new pair of binos, I’d strongly consider giving these a try!
